The Coaching Process, a brief outline


A lot of people I talk to haven’t really heard of Coaching and don’t understand how it works, so I thought I’d give an overview of the process I typically use. At all times I take a non-judgmental, compassionate approach.


The first step for me is about Clarity. What is your vision? What do you want your life to look like? It’s difficult to plot a path anywhere if you don’t know where you want to get to!


Once the vision is in place, I like to help clients understand what their values are. There’s very little in life that we can actually control other than what we say and what we do, and so understanding your values and aiming each day to live in line with those values can help us feel empowered and that we are being true to ourselves.


Setting high level goals as to what we need to do to make our vision a reality and then tasks to achieve those goals, helps create a road-map that we can follow, so that we get up each day with a sense of purpose and go to bed each night with a sense of achievement.


Understanding our current reality, what obstacles are in our way and what our strengths are can also help us prepare for the journey ahead.


Coaching is both solution and future focused and as such can help you feel more positive, like you are working towards something. It’s a conversational approach drawing the answers out of you, as ultimately no one knows you better than you!
